GOOD SHEPHERD
NEWS & NOTES
JUNE 27, 2010
WELCOME TO GOOD SHEPHERD: Good Shepherd welcomes you in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Large-print worship folders and printed liturgy are available from the ushers. Ushers will also help with hearing assist devices for your audio needs. The cry room is located at the northwest corner of the sanctuary for your convenience. If you have other questions or needs, please stop at the information center. We invite you to stay following the 8 am service for coffee, juice, goodies followed by Sunday School and Bible Study. May God richly bless our time together and please come again.
BIBLE STUDY TODAY: You are invited to meet in the fellowship hall at 9:20 am today for coffee, juice, goodies and the study of God’s Word. This class is currently exploring the New Testament book of Colossians which was written by the Apostle Paul to the new congregation at Colossae. He writes words of warning about false teachers and false doctrine and also words of encouragement. Come and take advantage of the opportunity to dig into God’s Word.
SUNDAY SCHOOL TODAY: For the summer Sunday School sessions, children will be grouped differently and may be in a different classroom. On the following page are the groups and their assigned classrooms.
Preschool/Kindergarten: lower level in room 020 (the Sunday School preschool classroom/Mrs. Ahrens classroom
Grades 1-4: lower level in room 021 (the Sunday School grades 1 & 2 classroom/Mrs. Burk’s classroom)
Grades 5-8: main level in room 106 (south side of the stairs)
In Sunday School today, students study, “God Answers Gideon’s Prayer With Dew” (Judges 6: 36-40). Share with our Sunday School students how God used Gideon to fight for His people. Parents might ask, “How did God reassure Gideon of His care for him? How does God reassure us about His care for us?”
STEWARDSHIP MOMENT: Galatians 5: 1, 13-25: Because Jesus has completely saved us from sin, death, and eternal condemnation we are freed from “having” to practice good stewardship of all of life and life’s resources and empowered to “want” to practice good stewardship. As God’s children and stewards we do good things not because we have to, but because we want to. What a difference!
LIFE MOMENT: The more the Word of Life is heard and taken to heart, the more fruit the Holy Spirit will produce in the believer. Think about this as you contemplate the various fruit. How does respect for life fit in with the fruit of the Holy Spirit?
MEN’S BIBLE STUDY: The men’s Bible study group is beginning a new study on the Old Testament book of Jonah this month led by Pastor Poppe. Come on Tuesdays at 6 am for a time of exploring God’s Word and praying for one another. All men are invited.
HIGHER THINGS YOUTH CONFERENCE: The Higher Things Youth Conference attendees will be leaving tomorrow, June 28th for Logan, UT. They will be traveling on a tour bus with a group from Pastor Sherrill’s congregation in Council Bluffs, IA. Please keep this group in your prayers for safe travel and for an uplifting time of worship and the study of God’s Word. The youth will be returning on Saturday, July 3rd.
MIDWEEK SERVICE COMMUNION: During the month of July there will be communion at the midweek service on July 7th and July 21st.

Summer Sunday School began on June 6, and we need your help. We like to give our regular Sunday School teachers a break for the summer. Please volunteer to teach during the summer. Pick a few dates and a grade level; team teaching is encouraged. Then just have fun sharing Bible stories with the children. There are easy-to-follow teachers guides and student materials for each lesson. Please indicate the Sunday and class level that you are willing to teach and turn in the sheet at the church office. If you have any questions please call the church office at 423-7639 or Barbara Trail at 483-2700. Thank you.
